How Kundli Matching Works

The score out of 36 is built from eight kootas, each worth a fixed number of points. They are weighted unevenly: Nadi carries the most at 8 points and Bhakoot 7, which is why these two dominate the final verdict, while Varna at 1 point has the lightest influence. How to Read Your Score Out of 36

Once the eight kootas are added together, the total out of 36 is read against traditional thresholds. A score of 18 and above is considered acceptable, 24 and above good, 28 and above very good, and 33 to 36 excellent. A score below 18 is treated as a weak match. The number alone is never the full story: a match with a strong Bhakoot and Nadi but a low Vashya behaves very differently from the reverse, even at the same total.

A very high score points to an easy, naturally harmonious match, while a mid-range score simply means the couple will do well in some areas and need to work in others, which is true of most marriages. A low total is a signal to examine the chart more carefully rather than a reason to walk away, especially when dosha cancellations or a strong Navamsa are present.

Nadi Dosha and Bhakoot Dosha

Two of the eight kootas can create a dosha, or affliction, when they score zero, and because they carry the highest points their absence pulls the total down sharply. Understanding them is central to reading any Kundli Matching result.

The key point is that classical texts provide clear cancellation rules for both doshas. A Nadi or Bhakoot Dosha that is cancelled does not carry the same weight, which is why an experienced reading looks past the raw score to whether a dosha actually applies in practice.

Mangal Dosha in Matching

The matching score out of 36 does not include Mangal Dosha. A person with Mars placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house is considered Manglik, and most families check this separately alongside the matching score.
